Please note that this is a review for the Two Sisters Lao-Thai Restaurant in the suburb of Dixon and not Kambah. I have not been to the latter.
Years ago I tried this restaurant a few times and was unimpressed so stopped going. A couple of years ago I went back to see if anything had changed. It had.
I now go to the Two Sisters Lao Thai Restaurant on a regular basis for good flavoursome food and a pleasant ambiance at a good price.
The restaurant is BYO which in Australia means ‘Bring Your Own”. In this case it means you can bring your own wine (only) and they charge you a small corkage fee (to cover glasses/ lost sales etc). This is good as there is bottle shop (off license, liquor store) downstairs with a decent selection of wine. As the restaurant is licensed it does have its own fully stocked bar so no need to BYO, unless you want to.
As the name of the restaurant would suggest, food here is mix of Lao and Thai. Everything that I have eaten here in the past couple of years has turned out to be excellent though I tend to steer towards the Lao dishes such as pork larb given that there are loads of other Thai restaurants in Canberra which do not veer into Lao cuisine.
Service is good. Staff are both friendly and attentive to customer needs. The restaurant is clean and tidy and nicely decorated – indeed to a higher level than one would normally anticipate given what they charge.
If dining here on a Friday or Saturday or should you want to be guaranteed a window seat, with absolutely stunning and unimpeded views of both a MacDonalds and a KFC eating establishment (I baulk at using the term restaurant for either) then do book in advance. Being a sucker for a nice view, I always ask for a window seat!
Please be aware that you do have to walk up a flight of stairs to get to the restaurant. I mention this as it may be an impediment to some.
